Despacito is a song from 2017 made by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song across the globe within the space of six months. It was a combination of pop and reggaeton that attracted attention to Latin Music, but as well reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs mostly in Spanish as of 2016, in contrast to just two songs in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. In the following months, several artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars such as Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. In the year 2020, some reggaeton musicians felt dissatisfied with the direction the genre was heading toward more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a part of a new generation of musicians who are determined to shift the direction of. It often blended elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
