Lee Roy Selmon's life is one of football scholarship, family service as well as community involvement. In the first place Selmon was born with Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon on a farm near Eufala within Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. A second reason was Selmon is the youngest of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. All three were All-Americans. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship and was recognized as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week during his time at college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. He also began a career in business. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among Ten of America's top young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 6-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993, as Associate Director of Sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
